We stopped at Scampston Hall shortly after leaving our rental property. This was our last garden visit and it was a dramatic courtyard garden with a lot of compartments. This was a privately run garden but it was quite stunning. Originally designed over the 18th Century it was completed in 1782 by the landscape great Capability Brown.
It had a very busy cafe filled with people. Walking around the walled garden and going into a range of different compartments we met and were greeted by lots of people going through.

There were some renovated glasshouses and information for visitors to understand about the history behind the gardens. Contemporary designer Piet Oudolf designed some of the contemporary planting in the Walled Garden.
My only mistake was going up onto the grassy mound and suddenly feeling my ever present vertigo slap me hard as the mound offered views all round but had no hand rail at the top. I rather foolishly felt panic and went back down the stairs.
MS is no joke when the symptoms come on like that. My hubby said he was surprised I had gone up but I didn’t see the platform from the bottom. I didn’t go up the stairs easily but the view was spoiled by my imbalance.
We didn’t spend long enough there (the sausage sandwich was a late breakfast) and there were certainly lots of plants and gifts to buy.

Somewhere to go back on a Friday as RHS members get reduced (free in October) tickets… the kids saw more of the parkland as they weren’t able to bring the dog into the Walled Garden.
