Just as well for humans…

I saw the kindness of strangers yesterday. It wasn’t how I saw a quick trip to the supermarket panning out but there you go…

I had filled the bottom of a trolley. Mainly detergent based as the dishwasher had run out of salt and the liquid that stops the red buttons appearing on the top panel. But I’d picked up some bulbs and decided after joining a checkout to run back for the bags making it 3 for 2…

Mistake 1 and mistake 2 was underestimating the huddle of people at the bulb area. Feeling a bit stupid for my actions I was trying to get back to the tills when a sliding door decided to close on me, causing pain on my shoulder and all of a sudden it also caused me to fall forward.

My knee hit the ground and I probably cursed my stupid decision. I was immediately helped by the multiple kind people beside me, as well as multiple concerned store staff making sure I was okay.

I was taken into the first aid room where I sat chatting for a while and then given a drink in the cafe. I felt stupid but I received nothing but kindness. The door mechanism is going to be checked, I was reassured, as it shouldn’t have continued to close when someone was detected.

Ice pack

I managed to drive home and felt stupid for most of the day. Although comments on a local FB group reminded me how the store has a health and safety requirement and the doors shouldn’t have caused me to fall down.

A day after and the bruising is starting to darken and I’m not doing anything excessive. I have taken paracetamol and used the rub on (gently) ointment.

I’ll sit outside for a bit.
