When I am on holiday I still feel the need to eat sticky, creamy and sugary treats. Many scones have been consumed in my lifetime! I’m not as keen on eating sweeties en masse: and by sweeties I tend to mean hard-boiled candies. I still like Sherbert Lemons but not more than two or three. You can’t find a lot of my childhood favourites currently unless you’re willing to buy a giant-sized bag.

I never thought I’d miss the little paper bags you used to get from our local corner shop when I was little but I object to the increased size and cost involved in buying a treat these days.

Even scones have changed a lot. A lot of coffee shops will offer three or more types (I prefer sultana to any other flavour) and sometimes they are heated or served lavishly with cream. Which has always been a holiday treat until the last few years! And I wonder why I can’t shift my menopausal belly? I need to find my ‘No’ impulse.

I like cakes I’m not going to lie! Carrot cake, lemon drizzle or deepest darkest chocolate? Just say no!?! Give me a break! Not in my vocabulary! Even the dog likes ice-cream!
