Scotland 2022! A castle garden….

Kellie Castle was owned in the last century by the Lorimer family, who included artists and architects of note. It was purchased by James Lorimer who was a Professor of Law who restored the castle from years of neglect.

We visited the same day we went to St Monans and enjoyed a National Trust scone here and wandered around the labyrinth which is intended to allow more time for contemplation than a maze with hedges.

“A garden is a sort of sanctuary, a chamber roofed by heaven. The garden is a little pleasaunce of the soul by whose wicket the world can be shut out from us.” A quote by Robert Lorimer in Architectural Review, 1899
