I was concerned after my trip that I might have blacked out. I don’t think now that I did but it did send me back to A&E because I went to the GP. I spoke to the GP on the phone and she asked me to come into the surgery. An appointment wasn’t confirmed until late afternoon and we drove off to my nearest hospital in the early evening.
It was so busy and full of every type of ill person and the walking wounded in their gladrags of a night or day out. Strutting about were twenty somethings with makeshift slings and unfortunately some of those came with an entourage of relatives and friends.

Talk of car crashes which had four-hour waits before ambulances could get to the casualty department made me glad I hadn’t accepted the ambulance to come and pick me up but it also might have meant the tests they can do on the doorstep would have stopped me from spending 16 hours en site at the hospital with my husband, who didn’t always have a seat because he wasn’t a patient.
The thing was I was always dealt with in the most disciplined, supportive and efficient manner – the difficulty everyone had was the numbers of patients exceeded the available medical resources. The wait was due to it being Friday night before a Bank Holiday weekend and I have to say if I could time an injury, my timing on that one was abysmal.

I am home now and should be resting so I’ll sign off now. Happy May Bank Holiday folks!
