Mother’s Day 2025

Wow! I’ve had breakfast in bed! Crepes made by youngest ! Wild flower book from my oldest and I spoke to my mum in Spain.

Roses needed clipped. Hopefully we didn’t leave it too late but with a tamper my husband got and a wee saw that is lithium ion powered and made light work of the thickest roses. (I’m hoping it wasn’t a cut too far? Some of my pruning book did go in…) but the nine years we have been here we have been ‘hit or miss’ regarding the timing of the prune.

I had wondered about training the longest bits into an arch but this had been derided as madness by the non-gardener…

I also despaired to see the laurel has grown back. Too much yellow! But I was delighted to see my favourite little bells, immortalised by Margaret and Charles Rennie Macintosh in the Willow tearooms.

Snakes head fritillary
Tete a tete bulbs and albino snakes head fritillary!

Spring is joyous! But I sense hard work is just beginning as the dog has dug up a lot of grass in his scratching habit! Maybe it will mean a rethink of the priorities this year. Maybe it will be tip runs and tidying.
