Sun is good, heat not so…

Arrived in Alicante and it was damn hot! Supposed to be cooler but climate change disagrees…

My mum is staying a good drive away from the airport but it wasn’t me that caused chaos with being picked up for once… a good friend helped with the to and from Alicante and both mum and I were very grateful. The inward journey was too dark to spot the ‘famous’ flamingoes but we had a trip from other friends in daylight.

This was a present my brother sent mum.

Lots of eating and drinking was done, my trousers were really tight on the return to the UK, and I’ve forgotten the names of all the people I met already. (MS memory doesn’t help, but also there were multiple people with similar names!) Some will stay friends I hope even if I muddle up names.

I saw lots of flowers (hibiscus and bougainvillea largely) but not specifically gardens; apart from peering over villa walls walking around places. Places we visited had lots of English-speaking staff and information so the little bits of Spanish I know weren’t essential for travel here. But the gardens mum had mentioned were a bus trip away. Next time!

We spent a lot of time at a central plaza which had cheapish to pricey menus and lots of chips and anglicised food, served in Spanish style. Salads were served with chips which isn’t my idea of eating healthy or particularly MS-friendly but when in Spain…

Beaches were largely viewed from esplanades or boardwalks, but I hadn’t taken flip flops in a effort to keep bags light. The coastal bars had genuinely lovely views sitting under shelters so I avoided getting any nasty burns. Next Spanish trip will be to see my brother in San Sebastián 🤗

Flamingoes in the distance.
