Or Granny’s bonnets, or columbine? The latter is mainly used in the US and I didn’t realise till recently was the same flower. This wonderfully diverse little flower has planted itself all over my garden. I added to the pinks with purple and almost black ones so they are profuse. The beauty of May flowers is starting with lots of alliums too and the irises all over. I am so glad I’ve added these to areas all over as my options to plant this year became less.

There is rather a lot of sticky willow, the weeds that kids will throw at each other for the next couple of months. They haven’t seeded yet so I will need to put them in the brown bin this week.

By next month we will see other flowers take over but I’m enjoying Californian poppies growing through the gravel and popping up in places I didn’t plant them. The dog has a wonderfully fluffy tail which I can see knocking plants and dislodging seed heads for most of the year.
