I don’t know if it was a full hour but I managed to chop a lot! The front hedge is a mix of bushes and lots going a bit rampant, and knowing the green bin only had a few dandelions in it, I felt compelled to utilise our garden waste collection tomorrow morning… so I got my secateurs out and my gloves on. I stripped out lots of ivy! I snipped lots of spiky bush! And I clipped a bit of the privetty things at the ends. I pulled out some five spikes of mares tail which had survived my dousing of weedkiller down the edge of the house.

It’s obvious to me now that I also have a whole morning of pulling out lots of spikes that are appearing in the border next to the path and all the way over the front garden… I hate mares tail with a vengeance so am I feeling that I should get stuck in?

My alternative plan was to visit the bluebells in Hitch Wood. Which do you think will win? …
